One of my favorite things to do is hang out at a coffeeshop and work. I'll do this several times a week and even on weekends. I try to stay away during business hours, though, as I had a client ask me once if I was grinding coffee in the background (the place I was at was actually doing so). But I'll often stop in to a coffeeshop between meetings if I've got a few minutes to chill and check my email. Even when I don't have meetings scheduled, I'll go and spend hours there. All too often, I will feel stifled in my office, unable to be productive. For some reason, being out where there are other people, music playing, and general commotion going on around me... makes me able to concentrate and get some real work accomplished.
My favorite coffee shops are Little City on Guadalupe by the UT Campus and 360 Primo in the Arboretum. Little City is great because it is always filled with college students. There's something about being in that decidedly bohemian environment that connects me back to my days as a UT student.
360 Primo is a rather new haunt of mine. It's much closer to me being the Arboretum... I live in Northwest Austin, which can sometimes be a 30-40 minute drive to downtown where Little City is. But it's just a 10 minute drive to 360 Primo. It's much less "granola" than Little City, but they make the greatest Chai Latte. And while there's less people hanging out, I've found it to be a very comfortable location. The biggest plus is that it is an Austin-owned, Austin-based business... something which I feel strongly about.
