OK, to be totally honest it was a small herd...a very small herd in fact. Well, aren't 3 a herd?
They were roaming around the park but by the time we got outside, they were several blocks away in someone's back yard!
Horses are pretty common around here. Sasha, the Husky, doesn't know what to make of them. They want to be friendly with her usually but she goes up to them and then backs away quickly.
By the way, the aspen are well on their way to being gold. The view out my desk window shows a glorious mixture of dark green pines, lighter green aspen that haven't turned yet and patches of bright yellow ones that have on the mountain.
We have had frost on the ground the past few days and even a little snow on the mountain peaks for a few hours the other morning. The locals have mixed feelings about the snow. It seems that the transition from summer to winter is tough on many of them. They love both seasons but find it tough to make the change.
Sadly, we will only be here another 2-4 weeks. The park will close a little early, 9/28. Then we can stay and have power and sewer hookup but no water as the pipes will be drained that day. We can hold about 1 week's worth of wather if we are careful and take short showers. We can fill up but not really easily so we will see what we do about it. Options are to bring in water, move to the park next store which will be open a couple of more weeks, or pack up and leave. Time will tell!
Below are pics from our 4 wheeling trip yesterday afternoon. We went up Arristra Gulch and Black Prince Mine. The temps were in the 70's and the sky partly cloudy.
